How I started each of my People and Their Companion Animal pieces: Humble beginnings. This bottom rim is pretty thick, so I’ve poked holes in it to help it dry a little more evenly and relieve stress during drying and firing. Any idea of where this will lead? Yesterday, I attended my first meeting with the Saxapahaw Chamber of Commerce held at Roxie’s____, how of Sue. Roxie is Sue’s dog, a very sweet red pit bull. She greeted everyone at the door. I just love cradling her big, powerful head in my hands! Local business owners, another artist, people who grow produce for our farmers Market and Nancy __, co-owner of Benjamin’s Vineyard, were there. Talked about the history of the community, exciting projects (in progress and to be started soon, and possible future events. Very creative people with lots of innovative ideas....

Last May, I visited the Whimsical Women spring show, held just west of Chapel Hill, NC. There I met many terrific artists, some I already knew. I just didn’t know they led secret lives–being members of this well known and wonderful organization. Bodyguard stayed in the kiln for three days, soaking up the heat and releasing any vestiges of moisture. That was probably way more than necessary, but I wasn’t going to take any chances. As she was nearing completion and still drying and getting underglazed in the studio, I started two other pieces, but intentionally did not progress very far, since I need to concentrate on one piece at a time.
